The Knox County Regional Forensic Center is a 33,000 GSF new construction facility designed to support forensic research, investigations, and administrative operations. The building is organized into two distinct yet integrated functions: administration/research offices and autopsy spaces. A key design focus was the integration of wellness into the spaces, ensuring a supportive environment for forensic professionals. This was achieved through ample natural light, views to the outdoors from all offices and collaboration spaces, and controlled daylighting in the autopsy lab. An integrated courtyard, adjacent to a shared break room, provides a centralized outdoor retreat that enhances workplace well-being. Additionally, natural materials are used throughout the building, creating a sense of warmth and connection to nature. This facility is designed to balance privacy, security, and operational efficiency while prioritizing the well-being of its occupants through thoughtful, human-centered design.
